First Generation
(Though prepared, hope you don't have to use it.) Few years later, on October 9, 1977, Mr. Won Pon, member ofPacific Diving Club, went Er-Roan-Bi diving with his friends. He tried to be heroic and try to catch a big fish. He told them about his diving trips in Taiwan and overseas with me and Mr. Shay. He claimed himself to be an experienced diver. Therefore, he, Mr. Fong, Mr. Liao, and Mr. Piggy went diving together the very next day. The current was strong and Mr. Piggy had surfaced first. He asked the captain to have him shipped back to coast immediately. The inexperienced captain did so and it had taken him for more than twenty minutes to get back to sea. The captain could not find the rest of the team after his returning from shore. At five o'clock afternoon, Mr. Fong and Mr. Liao were saved by the drove-by fishermen. However, they had lost Mr. Pan forever. I was in Pongfu that day, Chairman Kao asked me for an advice. I suggested him to look for Mr. Pan in Shour-Liu-Cho if the tide was high, otherwise, they should look in the direction of Lang-Yu andLu-Island. The weather was bad and it was a tough job for rescue team under that high tide. Six days later, Mr. Pan was found dead 500-600 feet away from Fu-Kong coast. There were many identical accidents found in Taiwan and Japan that year.
I would like to improved the design of Surviballoon that was used in Pongfu by divers. Of course, I wish nobody has to use it at all. The improved Surviballoon was introduced worldwide. Mr. Tien-Chong-Ber of TABATA in Japan gives his positive recognition to this design. The name of "Surviballoon" is given by him and me. Also, the first batch of Surviballoon with the logo of TABATA was marketed. The first generation of Surviballoon with the logo of TABATA was improved by many manufacturing companies. It has been a great innovation to divers.
